Review aquanale 2013: with the premiere of the European Pool and Spa Awards

Ten years after aquanale’s launch, the trade fair duo of  aquanale (International Trade Fair for Sauna.Pool.Ambience) and FSB (International Trade Fair for Amenity Areas, Sports, and Pool Facilities) was hosted for the first time on the same days of the week (Tuesday to Friday) in 2013. The co-located events maintained their successful track record with a further increase in visitor numbers (25,000), attracting an audience from 115 countries.

A further new and highly visitor-oriented feature was the spatial consolidation of the swimming pool segments of aquanale and FSB – including all areas within both the private and the public pool sectors – in Hall 10.1 of the Koelnmesse trade fair grounds. With the showcases clearly organised into theme worlds, national and international trade fair visitors from local authorities, specialist swimming pool construction firms, hotels, architectural practices and planning consultancies as well as premium trade visitors could easily learn about the comprehensive spectrum of products on offer and find everything of interest to them within a short distance.  With a combined total of 256 exhibitors from 26 countries, aquanale and FSB joined forces in 2013 to create one of the biggest marketplaces in the swimming pool industry.

The venue for the talks in the Fifth Cologne Swimming Pool and Wellness Forum was also relocated to Hall 10.1 for the first time, again reducing the distances that many visitors had to cover. The number of participants in the forum rose to more than 300 experts. Further attractions in the hall included the special event staged by the European Waterpark Association (EWA) for the public leisure pool sector and the swimming pool construction service point, including the innovation forum for the private swimming pool sector.

A very special highlight in the diverse event programme at aquanale 2013 was the first prize-giving ceremony hosted at the bsw trade fair stand for the equivalent of the Oscars in the European pool industry. Established by the European Union of Swimming Pool and Spa Associations (EUSA) to recognise outstanding swimming pool and wellness facilities, the competition attracted entries from twelve countries in various categories. The winners were honoured and the prize-winning projects presented by the then EUSA President, John Scott from the United Kingdom, and EUSA General Secretary Chris Hayes and bsw Vice President Bert Granderath.

Don’t forget! This year the EUSA Awards ceremony will again take place during aquanale. Make sure to note the date: Tuesday, 24 October 2023 from 16.30 at the Congress Area in Hall 7, C40/D41.
